What is the best TripCreator alternative?
Choosing between TripCreator alternatives depends on how your business is set up. For tailor-made tour operators and DMCs that contract suppliers, price trips and manage bookings, Tourwriter is the strongest fit. It keeps itineraries, contracted rates, pricing, bookings, tasks and reporting in one system, and every change to a day or a rate flows through to the price. Book a demo to see it with one of your own trips.
Other TripCreator alternatives suit different businesses:
- Tourwriter: Tailor-made operators and DMCs that need costing, supplier booking and reporting in one place.
- Safari Portal: Safari specialists that lead with image-rich proposals.
- Tourplan: High-volume operators running allotments, groups and wholesale.
- Wetu: Teams that sell on itinerary presentation and content.
- Travefy: Travel advisors selling trips to their own clients.
What is TripCreator?
TripCreator is itinerary and proposal software, founded in Reykjavík in 2013. It is known for visual day-by-day proposals and a client app.
TripCreator has launched a new version of its platform, and customers are now moving across. Operators we speak to describe it as a migration: templates, content and settings rebuilt in the new system. Any move like this takes time and care, and it often runs alongside live trips and a busy season. If your team is going to put in that effort, it pays to check which system fits your business best before you start.
TripCreator reviews: what users say
TripCreator scores 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra, from 10 verified reviews. The most recent was posted in December 2023. Sub-scores are 4.7 for ease of use, 4.8 for customer service and 4.2 for value for money.
Reviewers consistently praise three things:
- Ease of building itineraries: Creating a trip is quick, with content libraries ready to use.
- How the itineraries look: Clients receive polished, mobile-friendly proposals.
- Responsive support: Customer service scores highest of all categories.
The requests in the reviews point to the work behind the proposal: reporting on status and finances, accounting, a calendar view of confirmed trips, and supplier details that stay in sync. These are the same reasons operators give us when they start looking at alternatives.
Why operators look for a TripCreator alternative
We talk with operators who use TripCreator every month. The reasons they give for looking around follow a pattern, and most sit behind the proposal.
- Pricing that fits how they price: Some operators price by the day or by the package. When the pricing engine works per activity, the real costing ends up in a spreadsheet alongside the itinerary.
- Amendments: Clients change their minds. One UK DMC told us amendments give their team "the biggest headache", and shifting a whole trip by a day took a workaround.
- Reporting: Owners want to see conversion, revenue and margin by agent, market and season.
- Bookings and deadlines: Held rooms, cancellation dates and supplier payments need to live with the trip, where the whole team can see them.
- The new version: A migration costs time either way. Many teams would rather spend that time moving to a system that solves the problems above.
What switching from TripCreator looks like in practice
Iceland Luxury Expeditions, a B2B luxury DMC in Reykjavík, moved from TripCreator to Tourwriter in August 2025. Their team had strong proposals and no reporting.
Before we moved to Tourwriter, Iceland Luxury Expeditions had no reporting. With TripCreator, it was like driving a car blindfolded.

Thirteen months after the switch:
- 10 minutes to build a full bespoke luxury itinerary from a template.
- 6 days on average from enquiry to confirmation.
- 16 to nearly 500 agencies in their network, with commission calculated automatically.
- Three consultants plus accounting run the whole operation.
The team also reports a confirmation rate well above what they saw on their two previous platforms.
Of all the systems I have worked with, Tourwriter is the most user-friendly. The presentation towards the client is straightforward. The pricing and the way the reports work are top-notch.

1. Tourwriter
Tourwriter is tour operator software for tailor-made operators and DMCs. It was built by a tour operator for the full job of running one: itineraries, supplier rates, pricing, bookings, payments and reporting in one system. Plans start at USD 99 per user, per month, with setup from USD 1,199 and support included on every plan.
Before Tourwriter, I would not send a proposal for three or four days because I was always afraid something was calculated wrong. That was quite a nightmare. Now we have everything in a system and we can build and share a tour in a few hours.

2. Safari Portal
Safari Portal is known for fast, image-rich proposals and a client travel app. It charges a flat USD 299 a month for one user, with USD 50 for each extra person.
3. Tourplan
Tourplan is built for volume, with allotments, group departures and wholesale distribution. It is listed from about USD 250 per user, per month, with a five-user minimum. Read our Tourplan reviews and alternatives.
4. Wetu
Wetu is built for itinerary presentation, with a large content library and visual proposals. It focuses on the client-facing side: costing, supplier bookings and accounting usually run in a separate system alongside it. It starts at USD 75 for the first user, then USD 35 for each extra user.
5. Travefy
Travefy is built for travel advisors selling trips to their own clients. It starts at USD 39 for the first seat, then USD 20 for each extra seat.

Moving on from TripCreator?
What to look for in a TripCreator alternative
Most itinerary tools look similar on a feature list. Use this checklist to compare them on the work your team does every day.
-
Costing that matches your model: Price a real trip your way: per person, per day, per package, with markups and currencies.
-
Supplier rates in one database: Contracted rates should pull straight into quotes, with a history of every change.
-
Fast amendments: Move a day, swap a hotel, shift the start date. The price and the itinerary should update together.
-
Bookings and tasks: Supplier requests, held rooms, cancellation dates and payment deadlines tracked against each trip.
-
Reporting you will use: Conversion, revenue, margin and agent performance without exporting to Excel.
-
Client-facing quality: Proposals and live itinerary links that hold up against what you send today.
-
Real migration support: A named team to load your suppliers and products, and a plan for trips already in progress.
Questions to ask in a demo
Take one of your own recent trips to each demo and ask these questions.
| Question | Why ask it | How Tourwriter does it |
|---|---|---|
| Can I price a trip the way I want to? | When costing lives in a spreadsheet, the numbers drift | Prices build from your contracted supplier rates, with markups, commission and currencies set the way you work |
| What did this room cost on the day I quoted? | Rates change after the quote goes out | Every rate change is saved with its date |
| What happens when a client moves the trip by a day? | Amendments are where the hours go | Move days and services in the itinerary and the price updates with them |
| Where do held rooms and payment deadlines sit? | A missed cancellation date costs money | Each booking carries tasks with due dates the whole team can see |
| Can I see margin by agent, market and season? | Growth decisions need real numbers | Built-in reports on conversion, revenue and agency performance |
| How do agent commissions work? | Working out commission by hand slows every quote | Set it once on the agency profile and it flows into every quote |
| Who moves my data, and how long does it take? | The switch is the busiest month for your team | Our onboarding team loads your suppliers and products with you |

How Tourwriter handles the work around the itinerary
The four areas operators ask about most when they move from TripCreator.
Pricing from your contracted rates
Supplier rates sit in a central database and pull straight into quotes. Markups, commissions and multiple currencies calculate automatically, and every rate change is logged with its history.
Sometimes you, as a human and travel professional, make mistakes, and those mistakes are money in our field, with Tourwriter; the error margin is minimal.

Bookings and tasks in one place
Booking requests go to suppliers from the itinerary, and every status sits against the trip. Payment deadlines and cancellation dates attach as tasks the whole team can see.
Itineraries built from templates
Build reusable itineraries for your most popular routes, then drag one in and tailor it for each client. Clients and agents see a live digital itinerary link that always shows the current version.
To be honest, it was a game changer. A 14 day itinerary in Word could take you a full day. Now our sales staff can send five or six itineraries every day.

Reporting from the same data
Reporting shows conversion, revenue, bookings and agent performance from the data your team already enters. No exports, no separate spreadsheet.

I'm a small agency. I work with my wife. I had employees previously, but after COVID I decided to stop. I don't need them, because I'm quite efficient with Tourwriter.

How to plan a move away from TripCreator
A good migration starts with timing. Iceland Luxury Expeditions went live in August, mid-season, and ran two systems in parallel through their busiest months. Their advice is to move earlier, or wait until the season quietens.
- Pick a quiet window. Go live in your shoulder season, with enough runway to train the team.
- Load suppliers and products first. Rates, descriptions and images are the foundation. Tourwriter's onboarding team loads this with you from your spreadsheets and exports.
- Build templates for your top routes. A handful of strong templates gets new quotes moving on day one.
- Let live trips finish where they are. Trips already confirmed can run to completion in your old system while new enquiries start in Tourwriter.
With Tourwriter I didn't have to forget what I was doing to get to the new way of putting itineraries together. I found it very intuitive. You could easily see what you should be doing to make it work.
